La Gomera is the second smallest island of the Canary Island Archipelago, after El Hierro, and the closest to Tenerife, a mere 30 km away from the westernmost point of the island. This wear has uncovered the oldest geological material, hidden for aeons, in the Vallehermoso basin, in the north of the island. On the other hand, the characteristic features of the south are its deeply cut ravines separated by "lomadas" or ridges.
